Shenanigans Mini Episode 1: Sneaking Into the Drive-In

This week we had some fun as Rick Cohen, owner and operator of the Transit Drive-In in Lockport, was our special guest. There was a lot of good material on the drive-in throughout the regular Shenanigans episode, that I decided to make a mini-episode just on that alone. We talk about the situation regarding the Starlite Drive-In in Wichita, Kansas and Rick's involvement in trying to save the cultural icon. We also get a little history about some local drive-ins and some great stories about someone trying to enter the drive-in in an entirely unique way. We also talk about the passing of Stan Lee.

Living With Kids (Episode 8) - The Drive-In

"But I wanna go wif you to the movies, Bapa!"

Ok, so that is all it really takes for me to be convinced that a night at the drive-in with just me and my four-year-old is a good idea. He and I have done this several times before, but as he gets a little older the drive-in nights change ever so slightly. For example, he is potty trained now and is almost militant about using the potty. Unlike his Bapa, who can hold it until the movie is over, the little guy wants to go when he wants to go. We are encouraging him to do so, which means multiple trips to the bathroom during the movie. Buying him a medium Sprite to have during the film does not help either.

Living With Kids (Episode 5) - Movie Night

Ever since my four-year-old was born, we have been taking him to the drive-in movies. Images such as him peaking his little head up over the seat to look through the car door window and smile at my wife and I will be memories I will hold onto for years.

Looking at Movies - Coming Soon

We gave it a try Friday, but the 84 degree temperatures and 89 percent humidity at 9:30 p.m. made it impossible to sit through a movie at the drive-in. This is the first, and hopefully the last, time that the weather has chased us from watching a movie. We have sat through snow, rain, and fog to watch movies, but this was too much. So what I decided to do this week is give a glimpse into the upcoming movies so you can mark your calendars and make the appropriate plans to visit your nearest drive-in. After all, the weather can't stay like this forever... can it?

PHOTO OF THE DAY: Waiting at the Drive-In

Saturday night at the Sunset Drive-In in Middleport. We took all four girls to see "Star Trek: Beyond" and "Ghostbusters." Amazingly, the girls stayed awake for both features. Although drive-ins are disappearing across the country, in the Lockport area, we are fortunate to have 2 theaters with a total of 8 screens.

Looking At Movies (First Run): Captain America: Civil War

Disclaimer: This review deals with the content of this movie. This is in no way an endorsement of the Marvel or Disney Corporations. The tactics used by the Disney Corporation on movie theaters around the world are ruining the theater industry. For the love of movies, I will still review Disney's movies. I hope the mouse chokes on its own greed some day.

The long-awaited new Captain America movie has finally been unleashed, and it is good. Before we get started, let's just cut through the red tape and call this what it is - an Avengers movie. The idea that this is a movie starring Captain America is kind of crazy when Iron Man gets just as much screen time as Captain America. And yes, I will be referring to the characters by their names and not by the actors who play them.

Why Disney? Why?

There was a small furor raised by the release of the new Marvel movie Captain America: Civil War. It was so small that most people didn't even realize a furor was going on, but everyone will feel the effects of this furor in the very near future. When your local movie theater closes because of a lack of business, you can thank the Disney Corporation for that. For some reason, the Disney Corporation hates your small town.
