The Jersey Shore Wildcats played a better game Sunday than they did Saturday night, and the Lockport Express continued the same strong presence that they displayed Saturday night. In the end, Jersey Shore dropped the Express 6-3 Sunday afternoon at Cornerstone Ice Arena. Lockport outshot Jersey Shore 47-36.
Lockport’s play was strong still, with a few breakdowns that led to goals for the Wildcats. The bounces went less to the advantage of the home team than they had the previous evening, and the Wildcats took full advantage of that.
The Express opened the scoring on the power play with a goal at 2:30 by Erick Santiago assisted by Aaron Shahin. Jersey Shore scored the next pair of goals with tallies by Jordan Nolan and Nikita Penzov. The Express were able to tie the game with only 13.4 seconds left in the period. A booming shot from the point by Josh Evoy was deflected by Frankie Bodami into the net.
The second period was all Jersey Shore as they put up a trio of goals on the scoreboard. Dale Peirano gave the Wildcats their second lead of the night at 1:22 of the period. Late in the period, Nikita Penzov and Nathaniel Schwartz added goals of their own to give Jersey Shore a 5-2 lead heading into the third.
The Wildcats continued their scoring mastery in the third period with Michael Gulawsky, assisted by John Minnich and David Vaysberg. Luca Mazzo closed out the scoring for Lockport with an end to end solo rush. He lowered his shoulder for the deke and Rio Virgoe bit on it, leaving the net open for Mazzo’s goal.
Adam Partridge made 36 saves in the effort today for the Express. Rio Virgoe had 46 saves in the win today.
