Niagara Falls Powers Past Roc City 8-1

Niagara Falls powered by the Roc City Royals Saturday, 8-1, in the first game of a home and home series this weekend. Saturday’s game, taking place at the Lakeshore Ice Arena in Rochester, will be complemented by a game between the same two teams today at the Hyde Park Ice Arena. Game time is set for 1pm.

Brandon Corey opened the scoring for the Royals with an unassisted power play goal at 8:30 of the first period. It was the only goal of the period for either team.

Andrew Logar knotted the game, 1-1, with his first goal of the game only 27 seconds into the second period. The goal was unassisted. Logar notched his second of the evening at 3:25 of the period to give Niagara Falls its first lead of the night, a lead they would control for the rest of the contest. Logar was assisted by Spencer Hrynczak and Justin King.

Evan Korpolinski added to the lead at 12:22, assisted by Frankie Bodami and Brandon Snyder. The PowerHawks added a fourth goal in the second period off the stick of Stephen Minichiello with three minutes left in the frame. Brandon Schweickert provided the lone assist on the play.

The third period began strong for Niagara Falls. Bodami lit the lamp with a goal at 1:02 on the power play. Minichiello and King were credited with the assists. Brandon Schweickert made it 6-1 with a tally at 2:17, assisted by Logar and King. Schweickert would add an unassisted goal just three minutes later. Brandon Snyder closed out the scoring for the evening with an unassisted goal only with 72 seconds left in the contest.

Kris Augustine, in his debut for the PowerHawks, turned away 13 of 14 shots faced on the evening. For the Royals, Frederick Peters faced 66 shots, stopping 58 of them. The PowerHawks were 2-for-3 on the power play, and 1-for-4 on the penalty kill.
