The Lockport Express split their home and home series with the Pittsburgh Vengeance and gained two points on the fourth place Roc City Royals by doing so. In the Pittsburgh series, each home team won their respective game. Lockport won 1-0 Friday evening behind a stellar performance from goalie, Sam Fitzpatrick. Pittsburgh won 7-3 at their home rink on Saturday.
While the Express fought for their two points on the weekend, the team they are chasing, Roc City, lost all three games to the Binghamton Junior Senators last weekend. The Royals mustered only 5 goals against the league-leading Junior Senators. As a result, Lockport trails Roc City by only 5 points.
Lockport has a single game this weekend, and it is against those very same Roc City Royals. The game will take place at the Lakeshore Hockey Arena Friday evening at 8:30pm. It is the only game for the Express this weekend. Meanwhile, Roc City will face off against the Skylands Kings on Saturday and Sunday. Lockport currently has two games in hand over the Royals.
In other news, Lockport forward, Blake Bennett has been named to the Silver Team roster for the NA3HL 2017 Top Prospects Tournament. Defenseman, Nick Grupp, will also be playing for the Black Select Team. The tournament will be held February 27th and 28th at the USA Hockey Arena in Plimpton, Michigan, and is played in conjunction with the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament. Both are a chance for players to showcase their talents to scouts from the junior, college and NHL ranks.
The next set of home games for the Lockport Express will be February 17-19. The Friday night game will be against the Roc City Royals while Saturday’s and Sunday’s games will be against the visiting Skylands Kings. All home games can be heard LIVE on Niagara’s Watercooler.
