Skylands Rebounds For 5-3 Victory Over Lockport

The Skylands Kings were able to rebound from Friday evening’s loss to the Lockport Express, and emerged win a win in Saturday’s rematch, 5-3. The Kings trail the Express in the standings by a single point heading into Sunday’s noon contest between the teams.

Skylands jumped out to a large lead in the first period, scoring the first three goals of the period. Steven Ford, who opened the scoring Friday night, matched his luck with the first goal of this game at 6:05. Jan Broz followed up to give the Kings a 2-0 lead at 10:52, and Hunter Ledwith extended the lead further at 12:51. Lockport finally got on the board with a marker by Erick Santiago at 18:21. He was assisted by Pavel Kovtunov and Josh Evoy.

Skylands stayed in control during the second period driving the score to 5-1. Jan Broz netted his second of the night at 6:07, and completed the hat trick just six minutes later. Lockport was able to add a goal before the end of the period off a shot by Aaron Shahin. Frankie Bodami and Nick Grupp were credited with the assists.

Lockport scored the only goal of the third period, off the stick of Luca Mazzo at 18:11. Blake Bennett and Andrew Logar assisted on the tally. The late rally wasn’t enough for the Express, and the Kings grabbed the victory.

Lockport was outshot 33-32, with Lockport’s Adam Partridge making 17 saves on 22 shots before being replaced by Sam Fitzpatrick. Evan Barghout of the Kings stopped 29 of 32 shots in the win. The Express were 1 for 3 on the power play, while the Kings were 2 of 4 with the man advantage.

The same two teams will play at 12:00 noon today at Skylands Ice World in New Jersey. Lockport will play a home and home series against the Roc City Royals beginning Friday in Rochester at 8:30pm. The second half of the series will take place at the Cornerstone Ice Arena in downtown Lockport on Saturday, January 21st, at 8:00pm.
