Catching Up With the Lockport Express Week 10

The Lockport Express will have a single game this weekend, a matchup Saturday evening against the Skylands Kings. The Express will face off against the Kings at Cornerstone Ice Arena at 8:00pm.

Lockport is coming off a pair of losses the previous weekend, bringing their current streak to twelve. After Sunday’s 7-5 loss to the Roc City Royals, the Express made a coaching change. General manager, Frank Vecchio, will be back behind the bench.

Last Friday, Lockport dropped a tough game Friday evening against the Southern Tier Xpress in Jamestown, 8-1. Dominic Senese was credited with the lone Express tally in that contest. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Lockport fell to Roc City, 7-5.

Roc City opened the scoring with a shot by Cameron Clark at 4:49 of the first period. Lockport struck less than a minute later with a point shot by Nick Grupp that surprised nearly everyone on the ice. Frankie Bodami supplied the assist. The Royals added a second goal at 16:46 to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission. That goal, by Brandon Corey, was assisted by Eric Andolina and Aidan Conolly.

Roc City scored three straight goals in the second period before Erick Santiago scored his first of the season to make it 5-2. Santiago’s goal was assisted by Luca Mazzo. Roc City added a sixth goal with a minute left in the second period.

Brandon Schweickert put another goal on the board for Lockport 9:48 into the third period. Josh Evoy assisted on the power play tally. Roc City’s Brandon Corey notched his second of the night to slow the building Express momentum. Andrew Logar and and Josh Evoy each scored before the end of the game, but the rally came up just a bit short.

Skylands Kings are coming off a trio of games from last weekend. Friday evening they dropped a 4-2 decision against the Jersey Shore Wildcats. Saturday and Sunday, they split a pair of games against the L/A Fighting Spirit. They were victorious in Saturday’s contest, 6-4, while they lost 5-2 on Sunday. Skylands will also be playing a second game this weekend, a Sunday afternoon tilt against Roc City at the Lakeshore Arena.
