Express Notches Another Win Saturday Evening

The Lockport Express improved to 2-0 on the new season with a 4-2 victory over the Roc City Royals Saturday evening. The same two teams will face off Sunday afternoon at 1:30 in Rochester at the Lakeshore Arena.

Lockport jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play. Dominic Senese scored his second goal of the season, assisted by Pavel Kovtunov. Aaron Shahin scored his first goal as a member of the Express, backed by Gibson Stuart and Frankie Bodami.

Halfway through the second period, Andrew Logar made it 3-0 with his third goal of the young season. Dominic Senese and Luca Mazzo assisted. Roc City closed the gap at the end of the period with a power play goal by Brandon Corey.

Roc City closed to 3-2 in the third period with a second power play goal, this time by Peter Izzo. Lockport finished the scoring for the evening with Luca Mazzo’s goal. HIs second of the season was assisted by John Duffy and Andrew Logar.

“Sam Fitzpatrick really played hard tonight. He had some saves that were just miracle saves. He came across the crease and just threw his blocker up to make a save,” said assistant coach, Greg Penke. Fitzpatrick had 42 saves on 44 shots for the contest.

“Roc City had a short bench tonight, but they came out with a game plan and they stuck to it. They played a very disciplined game that we worked to adjust to. This was a fun game to watch, even if it was tough to coach at times. They’re a good team. Tomorrow’s game should be a good one,” Penke continued.

Lockport was outshot 44-26. Lockport was called for penalties 9 times totalling 44 minutes. Roc City had 4 infractions for 24 minutes. The Express was 0-4 on the power play, while Roc City was 2-for-9.

Lockport’s next home game is Friday, October 7, at 8:00 PM against the Pittsburgh Vengeance.
