Niagara Falls Defeats Oswego 6-3 Sunday

The Niagara Falls PowerHawks completed a weekend sweep of the Oswego Stampede with a 6-3 victory Sunday afternoon at the Anthony J. Crisafulli Arena in Oswego. The game also marked the fourth straight game for Niagara Falls with their cross-state rivals, all victories for the PowerHawks.

There were four goals scored in the first period, a pair for each team, and all coming before the halfway mark of the period. Niagara Falls jumped out to a quick lead when Josh Kalinowski found the back of the net at 1:26. Evan Domiano and Frankie Bodami assisted. The PowerHawks struck again only 1:08 later, off the stick of Spencer Hrynczak. Andrew Logar was credited with the lone assist.

Oswego answered with a goal of their own only three minutes later, at 5:35, when Eddie Cannon fired over the goal line. Marcos Zarragoitia assisted on the power play goal. Dylan Candleana scored a second power play goal for the Stampede at 7:55. Rich Hart and Zarragoitia were credited with the assists.

Brandon Schweickert gave the PowerHawks its lead again only 46 seconds into the second period. He was assisted by Logar and Stephen Minichiello. Bodami extended the Niagara Falls lead with two more goals before the halfway mark of the second period. Domiano assisted on the first of those goals, coming at 7:08. Bodami’s second goal, a power play marker, came at 9:56, with Branden Tripi providing the assist.

Eddie Cannon got Oswego back on the board at 16:25 with another power play goal. Hart had the only assist on the goal. Stephen Minichiello closed out the scoring on the afternoon with a power play marker for the PowerHawks. Coming with only 52 seconds left in the game. Bodami had the assist.

Carson Gates stopped 29 of 32 shots faced in the win for the PowerHawks. Zane Branson, who started in net for the Stampede, stopped 23 of 28 shots before being replaced after Bodami’s goal halfway through the second period. Ben White made 15 saves on 16 shots in relief.

The Niagara Falls PowerHawks will next face the Roc City Royals at the Lakeshore Hockey Arena in Rochester on January 26th. Game time is set for 8:30pm. The PowerHawks will return to the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion on February 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
