Lockport Drops 3-2 Decision to Skylands

In the race for the final playoff spot, Binghamton helped Lockport with a 16-1 victory over the Roc City Royals. However, at the Cornerstone Ice Arena, Lockport was not able to overcome the visiting Skylands Kings. Despite being outshot 60-34, the Kings were able to skate away with a 3-2 victory.

Skylands’ Craig Garrigan opened the scoring with a goal at 11:39, scoring a beautiful one-timer directly in front of the net off a pass from Eric Vanderhoff and Michael Sivek. Lockport answered that goal at 15:16 off the stick of Andrew Logar, with assists from Blake Bennett and Luca Mazzo. Logar is continuing a hot streak, with four goals and three assists in the last three games.

Tied at 1-1 in the second period, Skylands broke that knot when Edward Klein Clayton Thomas. It was the lone power play goal of the contest.

Skylands extended their lead to 3-1 in the third period off the stick of Eric Vanderhoff. Jan Broz and Michael Sivek provided the assists. Lockport pulled goaltender, Sam Fitzpatrick, to give the Express the extra attacker with 3:38 left in the third. Gibson Stuart used that to his advantage as he found the back of the net at 17:20. He was assisted by Nick Grupp and Blake Bennett.

After winning the ensuing faceoff, Fitzpatrick once again headed to the bench. Skylands missed on the wide open net three times in the waning seconds of the game. With the extra attacker, the Express crashed the net. As time was running out, Lockport came very close to tying the game. Mathias Yttereng kept the puck out of the net.

The same teams will face off Sunday afternoon at the Cornerstone Ice Arena at 2:00pm. Binghamton will host the Roc City Royals this afternoon as well. Lockport continues to trail Roc City by 7 points for the final playoff spot.
