Lockport Sweeps Weekend Series With 4-3 Win

The Lockport Express made it a sweep of the Roc City Royals in NA3HL action Friday and Saturday evenings. After a 7-4 victory Friday at the Lakeshore Arena, the Express returned home to the Cornerstone Ice Arena for a 4-3 win over the visiting Royals.

Brandon Corey sparked the offense for the Royals with the first goal of the game at 13:57. Aidan Conolly assisted on the power play goal. Andrew Logar answered for the Express with his own power play marker at 16:11 of the first, assisted by Gibson Stuart and Blake Bennett.

Lockport and Roc City again traded goals in the second period, with the Royals taking the lead for a second time off the stick of Bryan Moscicki at 6:47. Brandon Schweickert tied the game at 2-2 with assists from Frankie Bodami and Aaron Shahin just past the halfway point of the period. The game would remain tied through intermission.

Lockport grabbed its first lead of the game when Michael Sokol found the back of the net at 4:25 of the third. Nick Grupp and Gibson Stuart provided the assists. Keeping the game tight, Roc City’s Peter Izzo tied the game 3-3 with a marker at 10:22. That power play goal was assisted by Zach Buchholz and Brandon Corey. Blake Bennett netted his 23rd goal of the season at 15:43 to provide the game winner for the Express. Andrew Logar and Luca Mazzo were credited with the assists.

There were 90 shots in the game, with Lockport outshooting Roc City 55-35. Sam Fitzpatrick made 32 saves in the victory. Roc City was able to score twice with the man advantage, while Lockport scored once on the power play.

“It was a good game for us. Their goaltender, Peters, came to play tonight, and played really well. Our guys battled and came away with two very important points in our push for the playoffs,” said head coach, Frank Vecchio.

Lockport will host the Syracuse Stampede this upcoming weekend, with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Cornerstone Ice Arena. The games on Friday and Saturday will get underway at 8:00pm, while Sunday’s matchup with face off at 2:00pm. All home games can be heard LIVE on niagaraswatercooler.com.
