Express Scores 7 in Victory Over Roc City

The Lockport Express scored 7 goals in Friday’s contest to take down the ROc City Royals 7-4 at the Lakeshore Arena. Lockport was led by Blake Bennett, who scored fours goals for the visiting team. The same teams will face off this evening at 8:00pm at the Cornerstone Ice Arena in Lockport.

Lockport started early, with Bennett scoring only 9 seconds into the game. Andrew Logar and Luca Mazzo were credited with the assists on the goal. Bennett made it 2-0 for Lockport with his second goal of the period at 11:52. Logar and Mazzo again assisted on the tally.

In the second period, Lockport kept its scoring touch when Aaron Shahin made it 3-0 only 2:41 into the frame. Brandon Schweickert and Pavel Kovtunov assisted on the goal. Roc City finally found the back of the net at 8:55 off the stick of Zach Buchholz. Brandon Schweickert answered for Lockport with a goal less than a minute later, on the power play from Ryan Metzler.

The flurry of goals continued in the second half of the second period. Roc City drew within 2 when Brandon Corey scored at 11:55. Bennett completed the hat trick at 14:43 to give Lockport its 3-goal lead back. He was assisted by Mazzo, who scored his own goal 13 seconds later to make it 6-2. Gibson Stuart assisted on the goal.

Roc City, taking a book from the Lockport playbook, scored early in the third period to give the home team some hope. The goal, by Henrik Toiviainen, was marked at 2:47 of the third. Bennett tallied his fourth of the contest at 8:13 to give the Express a 7-3 lead. Logar had the lone assist on the goal. Roc City closed out the scoring for the evening when Brandon Corey scored at 11:14.

Lockport outshot Roc City 46-37. Lockport goalie, Sam Fitzpatrick made 33 saves in the victory. Roc City scored 3 power play goals on 6 man advantage attempts. Lockport was 1 for 4 on the power play.
