The Lockport Express capped off a home and home series with the Roc City Royals with a 7-6 shootout victory at the Lakeshore Arena in Rochester. Four different Express players scored during the contest.
Lockport’s Luca Mazzo opened the scoring at 7:07 of the first period, assisted by Dominic Senese and Nick Grupp. Roc City answered back with a goal by Aidan Conolly at 13:53. Lockport was outshot 22-9 in that opening frame.
The second period saw a rash of goals that saw the score see-saw between the two teams. Lockport’s Andrew Logar scored 2:39 into the period, assisted by Anthony Tomassi, to give Lockport a one goal lead again. Ten minutes later, Roc City tied the score on a shot by Bryan Moscicki. The Express responded immediately with a second goal by Logar.
Roc City tied the game with a goal by Cameron Clark at 16:45. The home team took the lead for the first time of the day after Brandon Corey got one past Lockport’s Adam Partridge while short-handed. Roc City left the ice at the end of the second period leading 4-3, and outshooting Lockport 45-17.
The third period was more back and forth scoring by both teams. Lockport’s Senese tied it at 6:46 with an assist by Mazzo. Roc City added to their total with a goal by Peter Izzo. Senese notched his second of the day to bring the score to 5-5. Henrik Toiviainen gave Roc City it’s third lead of the day at 12:28 of the third. Lockport’s Aaron Shahin scored shorthanded with 99 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 6-6.
Neither team was able to score through the extra frame, sending the game to a shootout. Senese, Logar, and Josh Evoy were unable to score during the shootout. Corey, Izzo, Toiviainen, and Cameron Clark also failed to get one past Partridge. Brandon Schweickert put one past Roc City goaltender, Freddy Peters to seal the victory.
Lockport had 35 minutes in penalties on 7 infractions. Roc City had 10 minutes on 5 penalties. Lockport was scoreless on the power play while Roc City finished the game with one power play goal. Lockport was outshot 58-30.
Adam Partridge made his first start of the season between the pipes for the Express.
Lockport’s next opponent will be the Jersey Shore Wildcats in New Jersey. The visiting Express will play Friday and Saturday evening. Jersey dropped their first two games of the season this weekend against the New England Stars, and will be looking to bounce back against Lockport.
